Caretta-Caretta Revealed

It is here, near the beach of Domes Aulūs Zante that both the Caretta-Caretta sea turtle and the Mediterranean seal find the ideal environment for spawning every year. Caretta, the loggerhead sea turtle, is a species of oceanic turtle, a marine reptile deriving from the ancient family of Cheloniidae. Still living in the Mediterranean, the Caretta-Caretta turtle is possible to meet since it spawns along the beaches of the Laganas Gulf.

Laganas in Zakynthos is one of the species’ most important shelters. Fossil records have led to the conclusion that sea turtles are contemporaries of dinosaurs.
