Craters

The two craters in the south of Milos are impressive.  Created by volcanic activity half a million years ago,  their walls are pyroclastic layers with continuous alternations of ash, sand and perlitic fragments.

Atmides

Due to the intense post-volcanic hydrothermal activity on the island, Milos is famous for its healing springs known even from antiquity and referenced by Hippocrates. From all the thermal springs of Milos, the Lakkos springs in Adamas, are  known as the  thermal spa with the most healing properties. The famous “Atmides”can be visited by car and are cone-like formations made of sulfur, directly releasing steam from the depth of the earth.

The Mining Museum

The Milos Mining Museum opened its gates in Adamas in 1998 in a two-storey building. Through a wealth of photographic material, videos and information on how to extract minerals from the ground, the museum gives an in depth view of mining methods from antiquity to the  modern ages. The museum’s exhibits also include a large tribute to the mineral wealth of Milos, with a large number of local mineral specimens and information on their uses.

The Museum has auxiliary areas which include a video projection room related to the museum’s themes, an event hall, and a room dedicated to educational programs, exhibitions, and more.
